PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Questions before the first conversation.

Understand Karl’s role, your choices and what the provider needs to confirm.

What happens when I contact Karl?

The website asks for your name, email and permission for Karl to reply. Karl can explain his role, help you prepare questions and discuss whether you would like an introduction to ART. Sending a request does not commit you to treatment.

Is Karl a clinician or an intake assessor?

Karl’s role here is based on lived experience and referral navigation. He does not diagnose conditions, recommend a detox plan or determine clinical eligibility. A qualified provider assesses care needs.

What is Karl’s relationship with ART?

See the disclosure in the footer for details about Karl’s role with ART.

Can I contact ART directly or choose another provider?

Yes. You may contact ART directly, speak with your healthcare professional or explore other services. ConnexOntario offers free information about services in Ontario: visit ConnexOntario.

Can I ask questions without committing to admission?

Yes. Asking Karl a question is not an admission agreement. Before making arrangements, ask the provider for its current assessment, admission, payment and cancellation terms.

How much does treatment cost?

Ask ART for a current written estimate for the proposed care, including what is included, possible extras, deposits and refund terms. No price is confirmed by this website. Use the cost and coverage questions to prepare.

Will private insurance cover treatment?

Coverage depends on the plan, the person and the proposed program. Ask the insurer about eligibility, authorization, exclusions and out-of-pocket costs. A provider accepting private insurance is not a guarantee of coverage.

Can I ask on behalf of someone I love?

Yes, you can ask general questions or use the family support pack. Please do not submit another person’s health history. An introduction should be discussed with the person and the appropriate intake team.

What information goes to ART?

Before an introduction, agree with Karl what information you want passed to ART and to whom. The initial website request is for Karl to contact you; it does not itself authorize forwarding your information to ART.

Will my employer or union receive updates?

A referral through Karl does not automatically authorize workplace or union updates. Discuss any proposed sharing directly with the individual and relevant professional team. Karl does not provide fitness-for-work decisions.

How quickly can I enter treatment?

ART must confirm current availability, assessment requirements and timing. Karl cannot guarantee admission or a start date.

What if I need help immediately?

Do not wait for an email response. Call 911 for immediate danger or a medical emergency. Karl’s email is not monitored continuously and is not an emergency service.

Are these guides medical advice?

No. They provide general information and questions to take to qualified professionals. They are not clinical assessments or clinician-reviewed treatment plans. Follow your provider’s individual instructions.
